Unani Medicine

The bridge between Western and Eastern medicine.

Unani medicine or Unani Tibb as it is traditionally known, is based on Greek medicine and developed through the centuries by amazing Arabic scholars such as Ibn Sina (Avicenna). This form of medicine was practiced across Europe until the 18th century and directly influenced western medicine.

Unani medicine is a bridge between Western medicine and the other Eastern medical traditions of Ayurveda, Chinese and Tibetan medicine because although it contains similar concepts to these ancient medical traditions such as humours, temperament and elements, it approaches these concepts in a scientific way.

I am currently undergoing basic training in Unani medicine and may include its concepts in a consultation if applicable. This will include pulse diagnosis, a discussion about your temperament and humour balance and a correcting diet and lifestyle based on this information.

For those who would like to find out more about Unani medicine there is a module about it in the Naturopathic course (more information here: https://courses.marysharma.com/naturopathic.html)

I have also written the nutrition courses for the College of Unani Tibb and Alternative medicine (CUTAM) (more information here: https://courses.marysharma.com/nt_eastern_nutrition.html)
